Results released for the 2017 NAEP testing! Massachusetts tops the nation again.
Today is a high holiday for education policy wonks like us! Results for the 2017 National Assessment of Education Progress (NAEP) are published.
What is the big deal about NAEP? NAEP is a standardized assessment given to students across the United States and territories. The NAEP assessment is given to a sample of fourth and eighth graders. This means not all students take the NAEP assessment different types of students in different classrooms take the same test.
The result is a common test of math and reading skills that gives results for the whole country and for each state or territory.
The 2017 results are available for public and private schools across the nation, for states/jurisdictions only and for 27 Urban Districts.
There will be no shortage of stories pointing out that Massachusetts has held on to the top spot (again). But don’t take our word for it – you can check out the Brookings Institution, Boston Globe or the Hechinger Report.
