The Massachusetts Board of Elementary and Secondary Education Joint Meeting with the Board of Higher Education and Regular Meeting

The Joint Boards unanimously voted to the establish an Early College Joint Committee (ECJC) to oversee the development, design and coordinate the administration of a Massachusetts Early College School.  The ECJC will report back to the Boards and seek final approval on the proposed design, no later than June 30, 2017. http://www.doe.mass.edu/boe/docs/fy2017/2017-01/joint-itemI1.html

The BESE voted 6 to 3 to approve an increase in enrollment in two Boston Charter Schools.  The Boston Collegiate Charter School enrollment was increased by 35 seats.  The Boston Preparatory Charter School was increased by 300 seats.  The three nay votes, on both enrollment increases were cast by BESE members, Ed Doherty, Mary Ann Stewart and Margaret McKenna. Proposed Amendments for Boston Collegiate Charter School and Boston Preparatory Charter Public School 

 The BESE voted 6 to 3 to approve an amendment request from Sturgis Charter Public School in Hyannis to increase their enrollment by 50 seats.  The three nay votes were casted by BESE members, Ed Doherty, Mary Ann Stewart and Margaret McKenna. Proposed Amendment for Sturgis Charter Public School

 At the February BESE meeting will review four proposed Charter School applications.  The four proposed schools are Equity Lab Charter School (Lynn), Hampden Charter School of Science – West (Westfield, Holyoke, Agawam, West Springfield), Map Academy Charter School (Plymouth, Carver, Wareham) and Old Sturbridge Academy Charter Public School (Sturbridge, Brimfield, Brookfield, Holland, Monson, N.
