It appears that the Obama-era regulations governing school and district accountability under ESSA and teacher preparation programs under the Higher Education Act are facing the chopping block under the current administration.
Two joint resolutions have been filed to nullify the teacher preparation regulations and the accountability and state plans under ESSA.

Will a repeal of these regs create massive chaos and uncertainty or will it allow states the freedom to innovate and experiment with education policy?
Right now, it is not clear what will happen with Massachusetts’ state accountability plan. The DESE is still looking to submit the state plan to US ED in April. Stay tuned.
