Surprise! Latest data shows even more Massachusetts teachers are rated Proficient and Exemplary.

The 2017-18 educator evaluation data continue to show that almost all Massachusetts teachers are rated either Proficient or Exemplary.  The current teacher evaluation system, in place since 2012, has consistently found that over 90% of teachers are highly rated and the percentage has increased every year.

The teacher evaluation process includes multiple steps – goal setting, plan development, observations, collection of “evidence,” application of rubrics, comments and feedback – for all teachers in all public schools – but not charter schools – regardless of prior ratings.

The pattern of results after six years of data on implementing the teacher evaluation system suggests that a thorough review of the requirements and consideration of alternative models might well be in order.
