The BESE approves one-year regulatory changes that will allow long term substitute teachers who hold a license to apply the time towards PTS.

As part of the November Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) meeting, amendments to 603 CMR 7.00 regulations were approved to allow employment and teacher assignment changes for the 2020-21 school year. The short-term regulations increase the amount of time an educator may be assigned in certain roles and increase the amount of time certain roles may be filled by a temporary substitute teacher without a license or waiver.

Many districts are relying on teachers assigned to new roles or hired as long-term temporary substitute teachers, employment in 2020-21 may be counted towards the three years of employment to reach Professional Teacher Status
