DESE has re-launched the Career Vocational Technical Teacher testing with a new test provider. Register for the CVTE teacher tests online and schedule remote testing. No more driving to Tyngsboro or payment via money order!

The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education launched a new Career and Technical Education Teacher Testing platform and registration website at www.nocti.org/credentials/state-programs/massachusetts/

The new features of the DESE CTE Teacher Testing includes:

After a summer with no CVTE Teacher Testing options for educators seeking to obtain a vocational teacher licensure for employment in a Chapter 74 Vocational Technical program, licenses were essentially at a standstill. Vocational teachers did become eligible for Emergency licenses which will bridge the gap for teachers who are delayed in completing the testing requirements for a Preliminary Vocational Teacher license.

There might be further updates to the requirements for vocational teacher licensure requirements this year. We are still waiting for the proposed amendments to the vocational teacher licensure requirements to be finalized by DESE. In May 2022, proposed amendments would allow DESE to accept approved licensed tests in lieu of eligible vocational teacher educator tests.

Reminder: the Vocational Technical Literacy Skills test (or other Communications and Literacy options) are still administered through the Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure (MTEL) website here.
