Bonus points for you if you knew all those acronyms.

For the rest of us, the United States Department of Education (US ED) notified the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) that the state consolidated plan under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) was approved.

A press release from the US ED announced the approval of the plan in late September. The MA Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) were presented with an overview of the plan at the September 2017 meeting.

The Massachusetts submission to US ED as well as documents outlining the public comment process and overviews of the ESSA requirements may be found at the MA Executive Office of Education (EOE) ESSA State Plan home page.

The wonks here at CEPP are still unpacking the final Massachusetts submission. There will be regulation changes and a major overhaul of the school and district accountability system in the near future. Stay tuned.
