The BESE approved regulations that will require many vocational technical educators in Ch 74 programs to get the SEI Endorsement. Click here for the new regulations.

The changes require vocational technical educators who were assigned English learners during the 2017-2018 school year, and those administrators who supervised or evaluated them, to obtain the SEI Endorsement no later than July 1, 2021.

The SEI Endorsement will also be required to obtain a Vocational Technical Professional license.

The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education plans to provide no-cost SEI Endorsement courses to vocational technical educators and administrators. No-cost courses will be offered in the spring and fall of 2019.

In August, DESE will notify the vocational technical educators and administrators who are eligible for a no-cost course. Additional vocational technical educators assigned an EL during 2017-18 will be notified in October 2018.

Registration for spring and fall 2019 no-cost courses is expected to open in October 2018. DESE would like to fill all of the seats in each no-cost course, so additional seats may be available to those who are otherwise not required to earn the SEI Endorsement once eligible educators and administrators have registered.  Additional seats will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
